Giants lure top goaler White into the ring
GEELONG West Giants have bolstered their netball line-up with the addition of sporting all-rounder Maddy White.
After taking 12 months away from the game to focus on her chiropractic degree, White is excited to get back into netball at the GFL club.
“I’m keen to give it a redhot go this year,” she said.
An accomplished sportswoman, White played college basketball in America and SEABL and Big V competitions locally.
She took up boxing last year when a Warrnambool bout needed more competitors.
“I always boxed as a way of getting fit but I enjoyed the competition. It’s exhilarating and completely different,” she said.
White will also play for Boroondara Express in the Vic- torian Netball League this year. She will prioritise VNL games on the two occasions her schedule clashes.
White is yet to train with Geelong West, due to an upcoming boxing engagement, but will return to the court in March.
“Boroondara Express and Geelong West will be my top priorities,” she said. “Whether I compete in boxing will de- pend on my weekends off.”
Giants netball president Sharon Gillet said White would bring strength and maturity to the young side’s attack. “Maddy is the versatile, athletic goaler we need after Kara Allan’s move back to Colac,” Gillet said.
“She is club-minded and we’re looking forward to watching her develop.”
