Renshaw ton puts Bulls on top of Vics

-

FORMER Test opener Matthew Renshaw’s dominant century has put Queensland on top after day one of their Sheffield Shield match against Victoria at the MCG.

Renshaw was in sparkling touch yesterday, scoring 170 in a 218-ball innings that left the Bulls at 4-333.

Renshaw crashed a strong Victorian attack to all corners in a knock that included four sixes, before he was eventually caught at slip off the bowling of Fawad Ahmed.

Renshaw was particularly harsh against Ahmad, whose 23 overs cost 104 runs.

Sam Heazlett (63no) and Jack Wildermuth (42no) added to the Vics’ misery with an unbeaten 75-run stand.

EMERGING South Australian paceman Nick Winter has marked himself as a potential star of the future after reviving the Redbacks’ hopes late on day one against NSW.

Winter collected 5-48 from 25.4 impressive overs as NSW were bowled out for 256 just before stumps at the SCG.

It is a second five-wicket haul in as many matches for the 24-year-old who debuted for the Redbacks last weekend.

Daniel Hughes (93) and Kurtis Patterson (89) scored the majority of the runs.

A DOGGED Matthew Wade century lifted Tasmania into a strong position at stumps on day one against Western Australia in Hobart.

The former Test wicketkeeper is 138 not out, with a third-session flurry pushing the Tigers to 5-327.

Wade shared an unbeaten 168-run stand with Simon Milenko (66no).
