HIGH-FLYING JOBS
AIRASIA IN RECRUITMENT DRIVE FOLLOWING AVALON DEAL
GEELONG travel lovers could benefit from a number of high-flying new job opportunities announced weeks after the unveiling of AirAsia’s new deal with Avalon Airport.
The low-cost carrier has commenced a national recruitment drive for cabin crew following its decision to pull all services from Tullamarine in favour of the Geelong airport going international.
AirAsia will offer a twicedaily service between Avalon and Kuala Lumpur by the end of the year.
The airline is now advertising opportunities to join the team. Perks include a 90 per cent discount on AirAsia travel for employees and their families as well as an annual “free flight” allowance.
The airline is calling on outgoing people with experience in customer service and a love of travel who are willing to relocate to AirAsia’s base, Kuala Lumpur.
It says the “demanding” role requires people to be physically fit, with the company looking for people “passionate about personal appearance and grooming” with “no visible tattoos or body piercings”.
It is not known how many people AirAsia is looking to hire across the country but flights to and from Australia have eight cabin crew on board.
People are encouraged to register their interest online where they will be advised of the recruitment event nearest to them. Interviews will commence around the country in March.
AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said the airline is looking forward to welcom- ing more Australians to its network of 22,000 employees globally, which comprises 54 nationalities.
“Our cabin crew are committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests, and enjoy a high-flying career to over 130 destinations across our flight network,” he said.
“We hope to have more Australians who are passionate for travel and service to join us on board very soon.”
The Avalon deal is set to create up to 200 new permanent jobs, with a $20 million-plus extension planned for the current terminal to allow for international customs and border agencies.
It is projected 500,000 international passen- gers will come through Avalon airport during the first year of international operation.
AirAsia co-founder and CEO Tony Fernandes said the company was hoping to expand flight services from Avalon to several different destinations — such as Jakarta, Thailand, Philippines and India — over the next
few years.
