Leopold looms to steal fourth as finals approach

- ROBIN ROBERTS MIDWEEK PENNANT

OCEAN Grove fight to retain chance in finals.

Opponent Leopold must strive to win all rinks to displace fourth-placed Highton on the ladder.

The Leopold camp will be will today its double hoping the competition’s leading skipper Nicole Shortis can produce plenty of magic today.

“We were out-gunned at Lara a couple of weeks ago, that could prove costly,” Shortis said.

“It is all or nothing against Ocean Grove. We just have to win and hope other results fall our way.

“We enjoy playing together and sometimes that can go a long way.”

Ocean Grove’s Margaret Carroll said her team has settled into good combinations.

“We are coming good at the right time of the year,” Carroll said. “A win against Leopold ensures the double chance. We’ve got a lot to play for.”

Meanwhile, Highton travels to Lara for a danger game. A win would almost certainly secure Highton fourth place, while a loss would welcome City and Leopold into the mix.

ROBIN SAYS: Not quite enough “Shortis Magic” to get Leopold over the line at Ocean Grove. Torquay to snuff out City’s faint finals hopes. Portarlington to finish on a high against Ocean Grove 2. Highton to retain fourth spot at Lara but beware. Queenscliff to tune up for the finals against Cement.

Division 2: Clifton Springs to beat Highton. Belmont’s last chance to make finals to beat Bannockburn. RSL to retain its finals spot against Bell Post Hill. St Leonards to show why it’s the top team at Torquay. Geelong too strong for Pt Lonsdale.
