Deliveroo mistake a deliver-blue

- OLIVIA SHYING

DELIVEROO has vowed to refund customers who were wrongly charged a $5 delivery free during the app’s $1 meal deal on Monday night.

The popular food distributor says its $1 deal with Boss Burger in Geelong West and Waurn Ponds will continue.

On Monday night Deliveroo offered customers deliveries of an original fried chicken burger from Burger Inc for just $1. However some customers told the Geelong Advertiser they were also charged a $5 de- livery fee, bringing their total spend to $6.

A Deliveroo spokeswoman confirmed the mistake as a “complete human error” that occurred when a staff member forgot to turn on the free delivery service through the back end of the app.

The spokeswoman said Deliveroo representatives would contact all customers who were charged a $5 delivery fee for their $1 burger to organise a refund. “We have ensured this is all looked after and free delivery is switched on for today’s promotion,” the spokeswoman said.

Popular rival chain Boss Burger will collaborate with Deliveroo to offer $1 The Boss burgers from its Waurn Ponds outlet from 6pm tomorrow.

The UK-based food order service launched in Geelong last July, offering customers the chance to order food from a list of 28 local restaurants.

The service has delivered to 10 suburbs since July and in December expanded its service to deliver to customers in Grovedale, Wandana Heights and Highton.

Rival UberEATS launched in December and delivers food from 50 restaurants.
