Ex fined $400 for posting nude pics

A MAN who distributed nude photos of his ex-girlfriend on Snapchat has been warned to think about his potential to cause harm before pressing send again.

Jamie Large, 19, walked from Geelong Magistrates’ Court with a fine yesterday after pleading guilty to intentionally distributing intimate images of another person.

The court heard Large, then 18, had been in a three-year relationship with the 17-year-old victim when they broke up around June, 2017.

While they were in a relationship, the victim had sent Large a number of nude pictures of herself which he had kept on his mobile phone.

Shortly after the couple split on June 22, Large posted a nude photo of the victim on his Snapchat account that was seen by all his “followers”, including a person known to the victim.

Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Jacki Davis said the victim was shown the message and reported it to police.

“The victim was emotional and shocked and attended Corio police station,” she said.

In a statement read to the court, Large’s ex-girlfriend said she had trusted Large to keep the images to himself “out of respect for me and other females”.

Magistrate Peter Mellas said Large’s “vengeful” behaviour was carried out to cause harm to his former partner.

“This is abusive behaviour, she trusted you,” Mr Mellas said.

He said the victim was entitled to send the photos to whoever she wanted without fearing they would be used in a way to hurt her.

“Before you press send, take a deep breath and think about the text, the email, the photo.”

Large received an adjourned undertaking, a $400 fine and avoided a conviction.
