Price trio track well for Guineas

- MICHAEL MANLEY AUSTRALIAN GUINEAS

MICK Price believes he has a strong hand with his three runners in the Australian Guineas, as he looks to either Grunt, Mighty Boss or Holy Seal to give him his third Australian Guineas victory.

Price has the $5.50 chance Grunt, the $13 Mighty Boss and also the $19 chance with TAB fixed odds, Holy Seal.

Price won the Australian Guineas in 2008 with Light Fantastic and the following year with Heart Of Dreams — he also finished second in 2016 with Tarzino.

Price yesterday nominated Grunt “as his number-one seed”.

Price believes Grunt is a coming Group One winner and it’s his barrier of 16 which is the sticking point in the Australian Guineas.

“He was handy and in striking distance last start over 1400m. Where he gets to I’m not sure. I’m hoping he can get some cover and then sprint home. I’m hoping it’s a similar Australian Guineas to 2016 when Palentino and Tarzino came from off the speed,” Price said.

“I love the way he’s going. He looks good and he’ll be a super chance. He’ll go forward and hopefully we can get a good spot three wide with cover.

“He won the right race last start and defeated the right horse over 1400m which isn’t his distance.”

Price believes Mighty Boss is worth another chance after his failure last week in the Futurity Stakes when he finished eighth.

“He got dragged out of his comfort zone last week as he was three wide without any cover from the 700m out which doesn’t suit him,” he said.

“He’s a sit and sprint horse. He’s in the right race.”

Price said his query with Mighty Boss was whether he would be at his peak today. In contrast Price said Holy Snow, who won the Group 2 Autumn Stakes first-up, was certain to peak in the Guineas.
