SCRAPPY EFFORT LEAVES ROOM TO IMPROVE — ENRIGHT

-

Blicavs’ move into defence came in the absence of Taylor and Henderson, spending parts of the game deep in the backline on rising star Tom Lynch.

Enright said the Cats were keen to experiment with their utility through preseason, but it didn’t mean a permanent move into defence was on the cards.

Yesterday was also Enright’s first competitive match as Geelong’s forward coach.

Only three goals for the game was a modest return, but that output of the Cats’ forward line was hindered by patchy play further up the ground.

“At times when we played well we looked dangerous,” Enright said.

“It would have been nice to kick a few more goals and finish off our work. I thought there was some promising signs there.

“There’s a fair bit to work on and experiment with.”

Gold Coast Suns forward Tom Lynch was pleased with how his side stacked up against the Cats.

“I thought our pressure was really good in the forward line,” Lynch told Fox Footy.

“Guys like Darcy Macpherson, Ben Ainsworth and Sean Lemmens really drove that.

“That’s what we’ve been focusing on, getting that defensive pressure and knowing our offence will start on the back of that.

“We’ve trained that really hard over the summer. It’s been a massive focus since Dewy got here on day one. ”
