ROBBIE Williams fans packed into Mt Duneed Estate on Saturday to see one of the world’s greatest ever performers at his entertaining best.

The rock star took to the stage in front of a roaring crowd of more than 20,000 at the Day on the Green event.

The 44-year-old superstar belted out worldwide hits including Let Me Entertain

You, Rock DJ and Better Man alongside a bevy of backup dancers who didn’t fail to impress.

Organisers labelled the event an overwhelming success with perfect weather adding to the enjoyment of the sold-out concert.

Promoter Michael Newton said both music lovers and artists were investing in regional music venues.

“Early reports indicate there was some traffic delays, but everyone was really well behaved which was just fantastic to see on a site with that many people. Robbie really loved it too,” he said.

“He just couldn’t get off the stage and sung more songs than were on the set list.

“Before he went on he said it wasn’t what he expected a winery to be like, he had a really good time.”

Mr Newton said while logistically it was quite difficult to put on an event of that size so far away from amenities, he said the attendance numbers had proven its success with more big name acts on the cards for next summer.

“It’s a venue that artists can trust to put on a great show and that people will come to,” he said.

“That’s really important for Geelong. It’s really changing where artists can play.”

Williams fan Paul Gearon described the night as “magic”.

“He was just brilliant. And the crowd and atmosphere made the night,” he said.

“I think people were just in awe of how close they could get to Robbie. It was just magic.”

Day on the Green will return to Geelong next weekend with The Living End.
