Burglar swoops on Lara home as teenager sleeps

POLICE are investigat­ing an aggravated burglary where an Audi was stolen while a 17year-old slept at a Lara home on Monday.

The car and goods were swiped while Nerma Kasic dropped her daughter at school and her son slept.

Mrs Kasic wrote on social media she left the house at A GEELONG man is facing assaultrel­ated charges following his bloodied arrest at a service station.

Sergeant Graeme Young said concerned bystanders called 000 after allegedly witnessing an assault on a woman on Helms St, Newcomb about 7.30pm 8.20am. When she returned about 8.50am, she found damaged garage panels and opened drawers.

She said items stolen included passports, a bag, cash, laptops, tablet, jewellery and watches.

“I ran towards my son’s window and started knocking and calling his name,” she wrote.

“As there was no answer, I thought he was kidnapped, so I started screaming and I called Wednesday. Police responded and arrested the man at the nearby APCO service station on Portarling­ton Rd.

“He’s facing assault-related charges following an incident,” Sgt Young said.

Investigat­ions are continuing. again and he answered.

“They could see my son sleeping . . . but obviously our car was their main priority.”

Mrs Kasic told the Addy the relief that her son was OK had outweighed her horror.

She suspects whoever committed the crime had staked out the premises, considerin­g they were able to pull off the heist within half an hour.

Her son slept thought the robbery, but was “really shocked” to discover what had happened.

The home was locked at the time, Mrs Kasic said.

Police confirmed they were investigat­ing an aggravated burglary at a residentia­l address in Lara on Monday.

“It is believed unknown offenders gained access to a property on O’Hallorans Rd and stole a car about 8.50am,” a Victoria Police spokesman said. “The stolen vehicle is a black 2017 Audi Q7, which is expected to have a damaged roof as a result of clipping the garage door while being driven out.”

He said no arrests had been made and the investigat­ion was ongoing.
