FULL GUIDE TO SCHOOL OPEN DAYS

- Olivia SHYING olivia.shying@news.com.au

GEELONG schools will be on show for prospective parents and students in coming weeks, with open days offering families the chance to find the best school for their children.

Over the next three months more than 20 public and private high schools across the region will open doors to grade six students nearing the transition into the next stage of their education.

Some schools will do so in the form of information evenings, others will have open days during school hours and a few will use a weekend to allow access to all areas of the grounds.

Clonard College will open its doors to prospective students and parents this Friday.

Information sessions will be held at 1pm and 4.30pm, followed by tours taken by one of 80 student guides.

Assistant principal Richard Jones said the school was undergo- ing a transformation, with new buildings including a modern library set to open this year.

“Families will get a good look at all of the facilities in the school — things we completed recently and buildings that are under way like the library,” Mr Jones said.

“It also gives them the chance to see the actual classrooms in operation and gives them a sense of the type of learning environment we provide.”

Mr Jones said the new library would provide young learners with a modern facility to learn and explore.

He said girls from all year levels loved participating in the open day and relished the opportunity to show off their school to future students.

“The girls love their school ... we are small enough that kids won’t get lost and teachers know every student, but we are big enough that students get every opportunity.”

While open days give prospective families a good snapshot of a school’s curriculum and general environment, most schools will also conduct tours of their facilities for parents unable to attend organised information sessions.
