Man flees his abductors
A 24-YEAR-OLD Newcomb man has escaped his alleged captors after being abducted and assaulted during a late night incident in the city’s east.
Police said the victim was allegedly forced from his home and into a car before being driven to a nearby service station with demands made to withdraw cash, about 11.45pm Monday.
What followed was a lengthy police pursuit before three males were arrested on a roadside.
Inspector Gary Bruce said the trio now in custody — an 18-year-old from Belmont, 19year old from Corio and 16year-old — were facing potential robbery, abduction and traffic related charges.
“The victim was from Wilsons Rd in Newcomb and heard a noise at the rear of his property. As he walked to investigate the offenders have approached him and assaulted him when he’s fallen to the ground where he was further kicked,” Insp Bruce said yesterday.
“They’ve then stolen his phone and got him into the car and driven to the 7-Eleven on Coppards Rd.
“They’ve told him to ‘get your money out of the service station’ and the cashier has subsequently called police.
“There’s been a pursuit up Portarlington Rd before the car has stopped at the intersection of Curlewis Rd and Bellarine Highway where the offenders have been arrested.”
Insp Bruce said the black Alfa Romeo was found to have stolen plates with investigations now under way into the owner of the vehicle.
The trio remained in custody last night but a police spokeswoman could not say whether they had been charged. CELEBRATING GEELONG REGION’S 2018 PREPS. 40 PAGES, 70 SCHOOLS OUT MARCH 27
