Talking Trump’s a bottler of an idea

- HARRISON TIPPET

WHEN it comes to bottle openers, Greg Jury’s newest creation is aiming to come up trumps.

The Jan Juc local is crowdfunding for the latest product from his Bottlepops business, a talking Donald Trump opener with 25 recorded messages like “fake news” and “that Barack Obama is one bad hombre”.

The loudmouthed bottle opener is aimed at the president’s fans and detractors, Mr Jury said.

“It’s definitely going to be contentious and it’s a bit of fun,” Mr Jury said.

“We’re not out there to offend the president. We’re making lighthearted fun of his personality.

“Love or hate him, his quotes are celebrated — or cringed at — worldwide and we saw a major opportunity to add him to our line-up of revered characters. We’re half-expecting a ‘cease and desist’ from the White House, which would definitely be something we will hang on our wall in the office.”

Australian comedian Ben Price recorded the messages for the opener, including some directly reading Trump’s controversial tweets, and others based on his more famous phrases.

Mr Jury’s Bottlepops business — created with mate Stephen Brooks — rose in prominence after appearing on Channel 10 reality TV show Shark Tank.

Along with Donald Trump, Bottlepops is also in the process of creating a line of Marvel superheroes — including Deadpool, Black Panther, the Hulk and Captain America.
