Gun, ice charges

- RUSTY WOODGER

A WOMAN linked to the investigation that led to a drug raid on Mark “Bomber” Thompson’s home will seek a sentence indication at her next court appearance.

Katia Drcec, of Mill Park, appeared in custody via video link during a brief hearing at Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The 22-year-old is fighting charges including drug trafficking and possessing a handgun, which stem from a police operation in Geelong and Mill Park on January 4.

Ms Drcec was a passenger in a car being driven by coaccused Karl “Bang Bang” Holt when it was intercepted by police on the Princes Highway in Corio.

Police allege they uncovered 336g of ice, a working handgun and more than $25,000 in cash after searching the car and the home the couple shared in Mill Park.

Those raids led to a subsequent search of Mr Thompson’s home in Port Melbourne, where an undisclosed quantity of drugs were allegedly found.

Mr Thompson was interviewed by police but has not been charged.

In court yesterday, Ms Drcec’s lawyer said initial discussions with police had failed to resolve the charges against his client. But he said the magistrate overseeing the next court hearing would be asked to indicate a sentence for Ms Drcec if she decided to plead guilty to the charges.

The case will return to court on May 8.
