HOCKEY GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN

With hockey season just around the corner, prospectiv­e junior girls players were treated to a special carnival at Geelong Hockey Centre on Sunday. y

The e Girls Just Wanna Have Fun carnival was an ideal way to promote the sport for youngsters aged between seven and 12.

Victorian Vipers players Olivia Colasurdo and Sophie Taylor were on hand to show off some skills and organise some mini-games in a funfilled environmen­t. Each participan­t received a T-shirt and a hockey ball. Junior hockey starts on April 21 with competitio­n from under-8 through to under-18.

Under-16 and under-18 are new divisions this season, taking the place of the former under-17 level.

A new under-10 girls only competitio­n will also run at 5.30pm on Mondays from April 23 at Stead Park.

Matches are played at Stead Park in Corio and King Lloyd Reserve in Newtown, with clubs based throughout the region.
