Taylor out for ‘medium’ term

- NICK WADE

HARRY Taylor will miss Monday’s clash against Hawthorn and faces a longer period on the sidelines with the foot injury aggravated in Sunday’s win over Melbourne.

Cats coach Chris Scott last night revealed Taylor’s plantar fascia setback was “somewhere in that medium-term bracket”.

Short-term injuries are typically associated with players missing about one-to-three weeks of football.

The injury will force the Cats into an urgent rejig of a defensive unit already missing Lachie Henderson indefinitely with a knee injury, coupled with last year’s retirements of Tom Lonergan and Andrew Mackie.

Patrick Dangerfield’s hopes of playing against Hawthorn on Easter Monday are improving by the day, as the Cats’ three-pronged midfield of Gary Ablett and captain Joel Selwood comes closer to reality.

Scott said the Cats were still getting to the bottom of Taylor’s injury.

“I don’t really like doing this (speculation) for the sole reason that you can say things on a Monday night and by Wednesday it turns out to be completely different,” he said on AFL360. “But he will miss footy. “We’re optimistic it won’t be really long but somewhere in that medium-term bracket.”

Ryan Gardner and Timm House could be in the frame to debut in Taylor’s absence.
