CABIN FEVER HITS PRIME COASTAL CROWN LAND

-

QUEENSCLIFF and Point Lonsdale residents, accommodation businesses and campers (many of whom have been holidaying in the Borough for decades) need to be aware that the long-awaited draft caravan and camping master plan for the councilmanaged caravan parks (Royal Park, Golightly Park, the Rec Reserve and Victoria Park) was released and endorsed at the council meeting last Thursday.

The plan has been developed with no engagement with many of those who will be significantly affected. It has blindsided the community and contains a series of bombshells. These include plans for siting 58 cabins across the parks and the possible sale of the three council-owned Golightly Park blocks for residential development (to finance the proposed cabins), effectively halving Golightly Park’s size.

It also allows for an increase in year-round as compared to current seasonal (summer) usage.

You would be well advised to get up to speed and attend the proposed open house information sessions so that you can make informed submissions regarding the plans for what, apart from the three blocks in Golightly Park, is prime coastal Crown land including two public parks.

The masterplan (at least the third in 20 years) that was on the council website has since had to be pulled down and amended.

You have six weeks, which includes the Easter downtime, to make your submission. David Connoley, president Queenscliffe Community Association
