Be at your prime for road run

THE Great Ocean Road Running Festival has become so much more than just a scenic endurance test.

There are now live music performances, a film festival, a kite festival and a range of wellness activities, spread out across Apollo Bay and Lorne.

The more sedate can even enjoy a picturesque 5km or 10km walk along the closed Great Ocean Road.

But the grind on the rolling peaks and troughs of the winding coastal route remains the greatest lure — and the toughest test.

The team behind the event, to be held this year on May 19-20, has added a new initiative to help those who want to not only tick off the bucket list, but also deliver their best on the day.

Organisers are hosting a new weekend training camp — focusing on training, development, drills and technique — in Lorne on April 28 and 29.

The camp will be led by Steve Dinneen, with runners to stretch their legs on coastal trails and learn some theory.

Participants will also dine with leading distance runner Liam Adams, who was the first of the Australians across the line in the 2016 Rio Olympics marathon.

The Melbourne-based 31year-old finished 31st overall.

Adams is no stranger to the Great Ocean Road, winning the 14km event in less than 41 minutes back in 2011.

More than 5000 people have already signed up for the festival. For details, visit greatoceanroadrunfest.com.au
