A MOTORCYCLIST is believed to have had his leg amputated after a crash in Inverleigh yesterday.

It was one of two serious accients to start the long weekend on the region’s roads.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of the Hamilton Highway and Dundas St, Inverleigh, about 1.45pm after reports a car had collided with a motorbike.

Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Lana Wilson confirmed a man in his 50s suffered a “serious leg injury” and was flown to the Royal Melbourne hospital for emergency treatment. He was in a serious but stable condition last night.

Senior Constable David Ramm urged people to be safe on the roads this long weekend.

“We’re reminding people to avoid being in a hurry and to slow down so you get to where you’re going this long weekend safely,” he said.

Meanwhile two people narrowly escaped serious injury when their vehicle rolled at the Separation St bridge in North Geelong about noon.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports two people were trapped inside an overturned vehicle.

The Lara couple aged in their early 20s were taken to Geelong hospital suffering minor injuries.

Two small dogs were also rescued from the scene.

Senior Constable David Ramm said police were investigating the cause of the crash.

“The silver car was heading south on Melbourne Rd when they’ve decided to take the exit lane at the last minute, rolling into a fence. An off-duty SES member helped them out of the car,” he said.

“The both suffered minor injuries.

“Two little dogs also survived and ran from the scene before being located by passers-by.

“These people are lucky they weren’t more seriously injured.”
