THE Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour allows lovers of scenery, cinematography, and adventures to be transported to incredible locations through film.

The festival will come to Geelong on its annual tour later this year, showcasing six of the best films from Canada’s famous nine-day international festival.

It is heading to 29 Australian towns and cities and draws a larger crowd every year as the nation’s best-loved adventure move night.

“These films prove there is still a lot of space on our big planet for new expeditions, unclimbed peaks, unknown destinations, and true adventure,” says festival director Jemima Robinson.

“We all carry crazy dreams of walking, riding, or skiing across the world — this festival lets us meet the people who make theirs happen.”

Films explore extreme adventure, from cycling across 43 countries to paddling a handmade canoe down the Ecuadorean Amazon.

Audiences will also experience the journey climbing Tasmania’s notorious Federation Peak in winter.

“Occasionally an idea comes to you, and you have no choice but to pursue it,” says one time cityslicker, now Tasmanian mountain guide and filmmaker, Andy Szollosi. “It refuses to disappear. “No matter how terrifying, irrational or ludicrous it may seem — there is nothing for it but to begin.”

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour’s films explore several corners of the world, taking viewers on journeys in amazing locations ranging from South America to Nepal.

Loved by All: Apa Sherpa looks at the life of Apa, who was forced to leave school as a 12-year-old, and has gone on to climb Mt Everest 21 times.

Films also explore the inspiring. Stumped focuses on climber Maureen Beck, who doesn’t let the fact she was born without her lower left arm stop her from embracing a life full of adventure.
