Locals oppose goat farm

- A Geelong council decision this week to appeal against a permit council’s administrators granted in 2016 for a large-scale dairy goat farm in Lara has stirred up emotions in the community

THEY better not bring it to Bannockburn!! Lauren Parmenter

Not a farm, Geelong Advertiser, a factory. Get your facts straight. Wendy van Vledder

Nothing wrong with beef, lamb or abattoir up the road but goats ... better start a protest. Rick Norton

People who moved and bought their house there knew about the abattoir when they purchased. This is a completely different situation. People purchased their houses 500m away were not told a factory nine-10 storeys high with 4500 goats on a small parcel of land was approved ... Most people just want them to move to a more appropriate setting. Michelle Mikk Nichols

Who was there first? The goat farm or Lara South ... the chicken or the egg. Moj Ker Archie

Half these protesters either wouldn’t even live in the area or have any idea what they’re protesting about. Rent-a-crowds. All this is going to do is cost ratepayers a hell of a lot more win or lose and it’s highly unlikely they’ll win. Marty Job

Hubby and I went to the meeting. Funnily enough we live in Lara and I don’t recall being paid to attend anything. Rent-a-crowd, I think not. Kylee Dawes-Nutbean

It’s not a farm? Couple hundred goats frolicking in pastures is a lot different than 4500 goats in a shed and a factory — and the numbers come straight from Nuchev. Kathie Kindred

I thought Lara was a rural farming area? I’ve had Angora goats and never had a problem with them. John Boom

What’s the problem with it? Typical, people protest when development could be a good idea. Sandra McAllister Beggs

Four-thousand, five-hundred goats in an open-sided shed. Pretty stinky, don’t you think? Would you want it by your house? Laura Sagitha
