Selwood says his body is ready for AFL return

GEELONG midfielder Scott Selwood says his body is ready for an AFL return, if there’s a spot for him in the side.

The 28-year-old was one of Geelong’s best in the Cats’ thrilling VFL win at Torquay yesterday, collecting 27 touches and five marks in the victory.

It was Selwood’s second hit out for the year after he played 70 per cent game time in last week’s VFL practice match against Footscray.

“I felt good, I played the majority of the game, so that was nice,” Sel- wood told the Geelong Advertiser.

“It was good to get the hitout and I actually enjoy playing with the VFL boys, they’re really good fellas and it’s a really easy team to play for.”

Selwood said his body was ready for AFL rigours, but a trip to Perth on Sunday to face the Eagles had to be taken into consideration.

“I think so, I think I needed to get through today and see how I feel, see how I pull up tomorrow,” he said.

“We’ve got to travel to Perth, so that’s another thing — I did a couple of soft tissue (injuries) off travel, so we’ve got to weigh that up, whether it’s worth trying to do that as well. “It’s probably dependant on how we’re going in the senior side as well.”

Selwood said the depth at senior level at the moment meant he might have to bide his time a little longer.

“I think we’ve got a really good senior side that’s playing some really good footy, some young kids that are playing some really good footy,” he said.

“I’ve got to fight for my spot back in the team, so hopefully I can do that sooner rather than later, but at the same time, I’ll be really respectful about how I go about it.”
