ROAD BLITZ

- OLIVIA SHYING

A LEARNER driver who allegedly hit another vehicle when she pulled a U-turn at 100km/h to avoid a booze bus was later found hiding in a paddock, police said.

Geelong Sergeant Jason Van Doren said highway patrol officers were at a Surf Coast Highway booze bus site in Torquay at 7.35pm on Saturday when the 19-year-old driver allegedly stopped before the bus and performed a U-turn into oncoming traffic at speed.

She allegedly collided with another car, fled the scene and was found in the rear of a rural property by a landowner.

Police arrested the female and she allegedly tested positive to amphetamine. The woman was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants for alleged burglary offences and failing to answer bail. She was denied bail during an out-ofsessions hearing and was remanded in custody to appear before court tomorrow.

Sergeant Van Doren said police were disappointed by the severity of offences committed by a small number of drivers during the Easter road blitz.

“We’ve had a heap of movement of people through our patch. While in sheer numbers it’s pretty good in relation to the amount of offences (com- mitted) ... what is disappointing is that those that do decide to flout the law do so in such a major way,” Sergeant Van Doren said.

Five people were allegedly detected driving under the influence of alcohol between Thursday and Monday, including a 36-year-old Belmont man.

The man was allegedly driving 47km/h over the speed limit down High St, Belmont when he ran a red arrow and was caught driving 91km/h down Mt Pleasant Rd before being intercepted by police and recording an evidentiary blood alcohol reading of .162.

The man’s car was immediately impounded, his licence was suspended and he will face court on charges of driving at a dangerous speed, speeding, drink-driving and using an unroadworthy vehicle.

A 22-year-old Highton woman was fined and immediately lost her licence for six months when she blew a .094, while a 54-year-old woman lost 10 demerit points and was ordered to pay a $476 fine after blowing .064.

Two men from Belmont, who both have previous driving convictions, will face court after allegedly returning readings of .054 and .05.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Van Doren reminded motorists not to speed after drivers of luxury cars were picked up for severely exceeding the limit.

The driver of a gold Porsche lost his licence for one month yesterday when he was nabbed doing 132km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Geelong Ring Road, while a 56-year-old Mercedes driver lost his licence for the same period when he was caught driving 30km/h over the speed limit on Mount Duneed Rd on Thursday.

A 20-year-old Audi driver had his car immediately impounded and will face court charged with driving at a dangerous speed and exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h after he was allegedly detected driving 122km/h down Moorabool St.
