Vics have nothing to be blue about

- RYAN REYNOLDS

VICTORIA Blue continued its domination at the Australian Women’s Baseball Championships with three clinical victories over the weekend.

Blue was at its high-scoring best at the Geelong Baseball Centre, dispatching NSW Country 20-0 on Saturday and then backing it up yesterday with a 16-2 win over Queensland and a 20-4 victory against Western Australia.

The state’s premier baseballers have now locked away a crucial top-two finish heading into the championship’s second round and can continue to hold its spot at the top of the table with a win over South Australia today.

“It’s important for us at this part of the tournament to be 4-0,” coach Dean Anglin said.

“The two games against Queensland and WA were crucial for us to lock away a one or two spot.

“I don’t think it matters if we are first or second heading to the second half of the tournament.

“First and second play their double header on the first day of the second round and then play a single header the day before the medal games.

“It means you can have your pitchers in a better position heading into the medal games.”

Anglin said he managed to rotate his roster over the weekend. It didn’t have an impact on performance with the Blues dominant.

“It’s a good team to coach, I can tell you that right now,” he said.

“They’ve scored 36 runs to six (on Sunday) and that makes things a little bit easier.”
