Carson finds no honour in defeat

- ALEX OATES BFL

ANGLESEA coach Paul Carson has stressed he won’t be satisfied with honourable losses as his side bids to bounce back from a Round 1 defeat against Drysdale today.

Pushing powerhouse Geelong Amateur to within eight points last week, Carson was pleased with the performance of his charges but disappointed not to walk away with the four points.

“It was a little bittersweet from our point of view last week,” Carson said.

“I was very pleased with the effort and pushing them, but I made it very clear that we still didn’t win that game and I feel that with the list we’ve got we can do better.

“We’re approaching every game with the belief that we can win it, I don’t care who it is and that’s Ammos included.

“We put a plan together and we set out to win that game of footy and we didn’t, so we’re not happy with the result, regardless of what people say.

“We didn’t get the four points, so I’m not happy. The competition looks really even and you’ve just got to win as many games as you can.”

The Hawks stunned Queenscliff in Round 1 and pose another threat to a Roos side on the rebound.

“I’m not surprised that Drysdale beat them because I’ve heard good things out of Drysdale, but to hold them to five goals and go out and kick 11 or 12, that’s a pretty good effort,” Carson said.

“I’ve watched a lot of footage in the last couple of days and defensively they are very, very good.

“And to hold Queenscliff to five goals at the Couta bowl is pretty impressive, not too many teams have done that.

“We’re pretty wary of Drysdale. They’re up and about and they’ve got a couple of new players in the side. It looks like they are basing their game style around defence, so we’re pretty mindful of them.”

The Roos will make three changes, with Dale Kerr, Chris Kennedy and Josh Hill out of the side.

Kerr and Kennedy are celebrating Anglesea’s recent BPCA A Grade premiership with a cricket trip in Cairns, while Hill pulled up sore in the wake of the clash against Ammos. They will be replaced by under-18 product Ben Jaska, Nick McGuane and James Edmonds.

“We still think we’re in pretty good shape,” he said.
