Adventurers subjected to big blow

-

WILD winds whipped the Surf Coast but it did little to deter Adventurethon participants. The multi-stage race involved a mountain bike component, a paddle race and a trial run with thrillseekers from across Australia taking part. Event director Joel Savage said organisers picked some of Australia’s most beautiful and rugged locations with the Surf Coast easily fitting the bill.

Mr Savage said more than 300 people took part in the two-day event, including 50 children in the junior competition.

“Unlike a triathlon, the Adventurethon is separated into distinct parts, but there are plenty of similarities,” he said.

“The windy weather meant we had to adapt to the changing conditions. So instead of the paddle race being held on the ocean, we used a nearby creek.

“We choose our locations carefully and the Surf Coast is one of those places that’s ideal for the sports that form part of Adventurethon. We’re off to Kalbarri in WA in June, so people not only take part but turn the experience into a long weekend away or a holiday.”
