FORD WOULD MAKE GREAT CONVENTION CENTRE SITE

-

SEEMS word on a convention centre has gone quiet, but what about the Ford site?

It can have waterfront views; it is large; parking is not an issue; it is on the main transport route for road, rail and air; and it is easy to move large items in and out of a display space.

The town still gets the economic benefit — people will stay in town and services will be from town and we start to address the economic disadvantaged in the north of Geelong.

Ford gets an exit strategy with potential naming rights on an iconic site and there is still room for the Ford museum. Finally, Deakin retains a key site in the city centre.

I travel regularly to an exhibition site in Nuremberg, Germany which is located on a large parcel of land 20 minutes from the city. Patrons drive or use public transport to access the venue, returning to city-based hotels for their evening entertainment.

Time to think outside the wedge. Clive Pugh, Geelong
