Anxious wait for Gregson

- LACHIE YOUNG

GEELONG should have a clearer picture of Cory Gregson’s immediate future this afternoon after he underwent scans on his foot yesterday.

Beyond that it remains a mystery for the small forward, who was playing in just his 33rd career game on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, who missed nearly a season-and-a-half of football with a navicular injury before making a comeback this year via the JLT series, came off the ground during the second quarter of the 57-point win over St Kilda.

It is the same foot he has had issues with in the past.

Geelong coach Chris Scott said it was hard not to be fearful Gregson had aggravated the foot injury that kept him out of the game for so long when asked about the issue on AFL360 last night.

“Yes, but I don’t want to be alarmist because I don’t know,” Scott said.

“But when a player with that sort of history has a sore foot — and he just felt a sharp pain, so my understanding is that he was stood on — it is frightfully bad luck.

“That (being out for a long while) is a possibility but there are a number of possibilities.

“It could be a completely new injury that just happens to be in the same spot.”

Geelong was last night hopeful it was a ligament sprain or, in a best-case scenario, something less significant.
