Death a week before discovery, court told

- OLIVIA SHYING

A MAN charged with the murder of a North Shore father allegedly killed his victim up to eight days before the corpse was found by police.

The alleged killer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not arrested until nine days after the alleged murder of 41year-old father of three Jason Fry.

The accused was arrested by police in Lara on Tuesday evening following a two-day probe by homicide detectives.

He appeared briefly in the dock at Geelong Magistrates’ Court before magistrate Peter Mellas yesterday charged with one count of murder.

The man was wearing a blue jumpsuit and relied on a single crutch to help him walk.

During the brief hearing his lawyer Michael Brugman said his client needed urgent medical attention to address a possible dislocated kneecap and an ongoing heart condition.

Mr Brugman did not apply for bail for his client.

Lawyer Matthew Senia, who was acting on behalf of the Office of Public Prosecutions, sought a 12-week period to prepare a hand-up brief.

Charge sheets filed by Detective Leading Senior Constable Greg Angus and obtained by The Geelong Advertiser state “the accused at North Shore on or around April 9, 2018 did murder Jason Fry”. All other details were redacted.

The accused has been remanded into custody.

A hand-up brief of evidence is expected to be served on June 21 and the man will be appearing at Geelong Magistrates’ Court via video link on September 7.
