MORE than $35,000 in grants will be shared by 25 of Geelong’s grassroots sporting clubs, the State Government has announced.

Sports Minister and Lara MP John Eren announced $38,483 would be given to Geelong clubs through the Government’s sporting club grants program.

They will be used for uniforms and equipment, training programs for coaches, officials and volunteers, and to help clubs improve operations and administration.

“Whether it’s a uniform or cricket bat, we’re giving grassroots clubs in Geelong the support they need to grow and help more locals than ever play the sports they love,” Mr Eren said.

Geelong MP Christine Couzens said the funding would strengthen clubs.

“This funding recognises the important role local clubs play — making sure clubs have the resources to enable their members to participate in grassroots sport,” Ms Couzens said.

The grants will include $5000 for the South West Golf Association to develop a strategy to grow golf and boost participation and $4500 to Drysdale Soccer Club to develop a strategy to help manage future growth.

The funding will be in the May 1 State Budget, which will include $241.6 million for women’s and community sport, with more than $100 million to improve facilities and access for women.

Premier Daniel Andrews previously announced $5.6 million for local projects.

The funding included $3 million for an upgrade to the Surf Coast Secondary College indoor stadium, $1.17 million for St Mary’s Football and Netball Club to upgrade its pavilion, change rooms, oval amenities and netball amenities, $860,000 for Ocean Grove Tennis Club to upgrade facilities and courts, and $564,000 for South Barwon Football and Netball Club to upgrade change rooms and spectator facilities.
