Queenscliff parks plan up for review
THE Borough of Queenscliffe’s divisive draft caravan parks masterplan, which could see more than 20 current camping sites removed, is now up for public consultation.
The masterplan aims to increase the amount of options and accessibility for accommodation around the two townships.
The plan — which details the extensive changes to the Golightly, Victoria Park, Queenscliff Recreation Reserve and Royal Park caravan sites around Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale — will be available for public comment until May 25.
“My fellow councillors and I are very eager to hear the community’s views on the draft masterplan options,” Queenscliff Mayor Susan Salter said.
The proposed changes will see an overall reduction of 21 available camping sites across the four parks, not including the 46 sites lost previously at the Queenscliff Recreation Reserve due to a sporting development.
Golightly Park is set to be the most affected by the proposed changes, the caravan and camping facilities to be completely replaced with cabins under the draft proposal.
Despite the reduction in sites, the masterplan report states that higher quality amenities and different accommodation options will result in more people staying all year round.
Council will also host community open house sessions about each of the caravan parks at the Point Lonsdale Primary School Hall.
Golightly Park draft masterplan options will be discussed on May 4, from 6-8pm, and May 12, from 9-11am.
Queenscliff Recreation Reserve/Victoria Park and Royal Park draft masterplan options will be discussed on May 5, from 9-11am, and May 11, from 6-8pm.
“We have scheduled these sessions to make sure people in the community have an opportunity to review the draft master plan options, educate themselves and ask questions,” said Cr Salter.
