TAC Cup girls set sights on Knights

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE TAC CUP GIRLS CANNONS FALCONS Goals: Calder: Best: Calder: Geelong: Geelong:

GEELONG Falcons coach Jason Armistead will not spend much time reviewing his side’s 20-point win over Calder yesterday as the side turns its attention to a top-ofthe-table clash with Northern Knights.

The Falcons needed just half-an-hour of sublime football to secure the win over Calder, booting six unanswered goals in a brilliant second quarter at Craigieburn.

The Cannons hit back with three goals to one in the third stanza, to get within 21 points, but just one point was scored by either side in the final 30 minutes.

Debutant Ella Mahoney and Sophie Walmsley each kicked two in the 7.4 (46) to 4.2 (26) win.

Armistead said his focus would quickly shift to Saturday’s match with Northern Knights, who also boast seven wins from as many matches.

“It will be our biggest game for the year,” he said.

“Northern score pretty heavily so it will be a matter of restricting their scoring next week and making the most of our opportunities when we get them.

“We hopefully get a couple of girls back that weren’t there today. Hopefully Tarryn Love will be right to play. Denby Taylor didn’t play today as well, and we’re hoping Eliza Shannon will be right for next week as well.

“That will strengthen us up; they’re in our best team.”

Shannon is looking to return from two years out of the game, after missing last season with stress fractures in her shin.

“She’s just had trouble, just trying to get workload back into her legs, she pulls up sore every now and then,” Armistead said.

“She’s just about past in now, so we’re looking forward to seeing her in action. As long as she gets through Wednesday, I’d say she’d be playing.”
