WERRIBEE had a point to prove after last week’s loss, responding in style to prove the Centurions are still a GDFL force against a Giants team hit by injury and a depleted bench.

Werribee shut down the Geelong West attack with strong defence to lead by eight goals at quarter-time.

Strong defence from Natasha Dimkovski, Amanda O’Malley and Brigitte Ardossi paid off and Werribee led by 21 goals at half-time.

The Centurions continued to inject fresh legs into the game — 15-year-old Dimkovski was outstanding in defence and contested everything. WING attack Calsey Wolak provided strength and drive for Thomson, feeding well to the goalers as the Tigers won an entertaining affair.

Bek Lebish came into goalkeeper in the second quarter for Thomson and instantly made an impact with high-ball intercepts.

With the match evenly poised at half-time, some defensive changes saw Rebecca Lebish go into goal defence, with Lauren Conroy out to wing defence and Shannyn Leach into centre.

The moves proved defining. Conroy finished as Thomson’s best player as the Tigers turned up the heat in the final quarter, coming from two goals down to win. THE Hawks extended their lead at every break to claim a strong win over Bell Post Hill.

Teagan Madden was dominant in defence, providing Inverleigh with a number of turnovers. Vanessa Finley-McDonald created plenty of strong drives in goal attack and combined strongly with Jaclyn Lang, who was strong under the post. SWIFT ball movement, creative angles and impeccable timing helped the Devils lead 22-6 at quartertime after a term that set the tone for the match.

Corio used its versatility throughout the match, with Liv Krygger working hard in the defensive circle, applying great pressure with Jenna Boseley, Eliza Kramer and Bonnie Coburn. ANAKIE hung on for a thrilling two-goal win after the Magpies worked their way back into the game from a seven-goal quarter-time deficit.

While being tightly defended by North Geelong’s defenders, Anakie goalers Cassidy Nelson, Jady Brkic and Nikki Slaven came out on top in the goal ring. PLAYED on Anzac Day.
