NEWCOMB BOOMS AS BUYERS SWING BACK TO ’60S STYLE
A STUNNING renovation to a mid-century Newcomb house will set tongues wagging after agents wrapped up a sale for a massive price this week.
The four-bedroom weatherboard house at 14 Charlotte Ave, Newcomb, was sold for $650,000 after three buyers emerged to secure the property that was offered for the first time in six years.
Eastwood Andrews, Geelong agent Amanda Frick said the property had been offered with price expectations of $560,000 to $610,000.
Ms Frick said three buyers, all families, were keen to secure the house, which had undergone a massive cosmetic renovation since it last sold for $395,000 in 2012.
She said the buyers were a young Geelong family.
The owners had retained the existing footprint of the house but installed a modern kitchen and bathroom, built an outdoor kitchen and deck in the backyard and created a studio in the garage.
“They had it as their family home and loved it. They said if they could pick up the home and put it somewhere else they would but they’re looking to be a little closer to the ring road,” Ms Frick said.
The record house price in Newcomb is $950,000, but the six most expensive residential addresses have land components of at least 2600sq m — about four times the median-sized house block in the suburb.
Newcomb’s median house price has climbed 16 per cent in 12 months to $361,000, according to CoreLogic.
Ms Frick said Newcomb continued to surprise with plenty of interest from young families.
“It’s become quite a trendy suburb because it was built in the ’50s and ’60s era and the older generations have moved out and the younger generations are moving in and revamping and restoring these older homes,” she said.
