Unique weekend to decide best surfing nation

- Four-day surf forecast

IT promises to be the biggest, most historic surf event ever run in the US and, for the first time, pits the world’s top surfing nations against one another to crown the best nation in surfing. And it all happens this weekend in the US.

It will be run in the Kelly Slater wave pool, which will produce non-stop perfect waves throughout Saturday and Sunday (Sunday and Monday our time).

The Australian team is awesome and a big chance to win. Stephanie Gilmore, Tyler Wright, Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning and Matt Wilkinson will fly the Australian flag and it could be the strength of our girls that makes the difference.

Gilmore is currently leading the world rankings, Tyler Wright is the reigning women’s WSL champion and they should dominate.

Team USA and Team Brazil will be certainly in contention. USA in particular with their Hawaiian contingent of John John Florence and Carissa Moore joining forces with Kelly Slater, Kolohe Andino and Lakey Peterson.

It promises to be intriguing and entertaining. Perfect waves, the world’s best surfers and national pride all on the line in this unique and historic event makes it a must-watch.

The stadium is apparently a sellout, which is another first as the sport gets presented in this stadium atmosphere.

Hopefully the machines that pump out the perfect waves operate without a hitch. Let’s see who really is the world’s top surfing nation! We have finally locked into great autumn weather, with offshore winds all day and continuous swells. Clean and small-moderate swells from today and right through to Sunday and beyond promise what should be the best time of the year along our coastline over the coming two months.
