spent a lot of time when I was in my late teens and it’s where a significan­t relationsh­ip ended.

“Basically, the song underpins the way I felt around the time. I feel like this was the time I began to struggle with depression and when I was about 18, battled with body image issues.” It’s not always an easy listen. Lines like, “I’ve been binging / I’ve been purging / I’ll be skinny / At least that’s something,” paint a vivid picture of her struggle.

Geelong gig goers can expect to go on a journey at the band’s Barwon Club show.

“I find that I like to emote with as many people in the crowd as possible,” De Vita said

“I’m not playing at an audience — I want them to be as immersed in the experience as I am. I just want them to feel what we feel.”

The five-piece Brisbane outfit also includes Chris Antolak and Ewan Birtwell trading guitar parts, Tom ‘Griff’ Griffin on bass and Tom Bloomfield on drums.

In the past 18 months, WAAX has played more than 60 shows including support slots with internatio­nal heavyweigh­ts Fall Out Boy.

It’s also graced the Falls Festival stage and completed two sold out Australian headline tours.

The band has amassed industry attention and a keen fanbase from around the globe, thanks to their independen­tly-released EPs Holy Sick (2015) and Wild & Weak (2017), as well as singles like Same Same and I For An Eye.

They’ve recently signed to US booking agency Paradigm and have been nominated for two Queensland Music Awards, where they will also perform at the official ceremony.
