Better roads save lives

-

Economists have questioned the financial sense of expensive infrastructure such as the A1 Princes Highway duplication which connects Geelong (a regional city) to Colac (a regional town).

Speaking of projects that waste money. Ever seen the disaster in Little Malop St? Or that hardly used money pit stadium? Chris Tsorotes

Princes Highway widening between Geelong and Colac is long overdue, and local users will see the benefits in less travel time and lowering the road toll. Nick Williams

Isn’t it funny how bean counters only look at the dollars and not the human side of things that can actually save time and lives. Warren Moore

Humans are apparently dispensable and irrelevant. The only thing that matters apparently is dollars. Obesa Cantavit

Funny, people carry on about the disgrace of our roads, backed by the local papers, now it’s a waste of money, crap, I would rather travel on a road that is safe than on a cattle trail going nowhere except to misery. Lynnette King

The initial cost and return is not the key, it’s the long-term benefits. They obviously don’t count the travel time for industry. If it’s slower, product prices go up and cost everyone. Juggy

They only care about the city ... duplication is well worth it. Rob Ash

None of this is a waste of money. Ask people who live in Colac and work in Geelong. They pay taxes, too. Ella Carpus

What price do these studies put on a human life? Huge toll of injuries and fatalities over the past 20 years. David Stubbs

Here’s an idea — let’s not improve roads — give the banks and multinationals huge tax cuts instead. (Oh wait the LNP wants to do that!!!) Doug Gilham

Have you noticed how all the roads are being fixed up? About time. Wendy van Vledder

They are doing some of the highway to Ballarat but not to the extent of the Colac highway. Marty Job
