Lamont demands hard edge

- ALEX OATES

WERRIBEE coach John Lamont has put the heat on his players to bring a harder edge against Collingwood in a crunch match tonight.

The Tigers slipped to 1-3 after a 38-point loss to Richmond last round, with Lamont blaming a lack of defensive pressure.

He said inaccuracy in front of goal was also a problem.

“At the end of the day they just scored too easily,” Lamont said. “That was the main thing.

“Our ball use caused issues at times. Some of the methods were really good, but we cocked it up and they capitalised.”

At training on Thursday night, he reinforced the need to bring pressure and intensity against a star-studded Collingwood.

“We’ve got to have a harder edge with regards to stopping the opposition scoring,” Lamont said.

“We’ve just got to be more desperate. We need a little bit more attention to detail on our ball movement and skill execution, but the No.1 message is to defend better because we missed a lot of kicks.”

Collingwood could boast the likes of AFL-listed players of Daniel Wells, Levi Greenwood, Alex Fasolo, Chris Mayne, Josh Thomas, Josh Smith, Rupert Wills, Callum Brown and Josh Daicos.

The Tigers are settled with youngster Jack Henderson, who has been the Tigers’ 23rd player for the first four rounds, earning his place in the 22.

It has opened the door for Geelong West Giants product Joel Bennett to make his VFL debut.
