DEAKIN University Vice-Chancellor Jane den Hollander was the guest speaker at the Entreprene­urs Geelong breakfast forum on Friday.

The audience heard advice on leadership and the importance of values and evaluating risk, as well an insight into the evolution of Deakin.

The event, sponsored by fast internet provider Spirit, was held at the Australia Post Small Business Hive. flagged where there was room for improvemen­t.

“The 2018-19 Victorian Budget has delivered support to small businesses where it is needed,” chamber boss Bernadette Uzelac said.

“While a more substantia­l increase to the payroll tax threshold is still an issue that Geelong will continue to advocate for, the reduction of the payroll tax rate for businesses operating in regional Victoria will provide welcome relief to the engine room of our economy.“ number of employers are being nabbed for failing to meet their obligation­s to them.

One of Australia’s top employment and industrial relations lawyers is coming to Geelong to do a presentati­on on behalf of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce to help business managers understand how to avoid penalties and risk, and remain up to date with legislatio­n and regulators.

Luis Izzo, the managing director of Sydney Workplace, Australian Business Lawyers and Advisors, will present at Rydges on Wednesday, from 1-3pm.
