Galaxy held back by errors

- RYAN REYNOLDS WNPL

COACH Kat Smith says Galaxy United needs to stamp out individual mistakes as her team’s up and down season continued on Saturday.

League leader Calder United easily accounted for Galaxy United 4-2 at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve with goals from Caitlin Pickett and Jadranka Erceg the only consolation.

Smith admitted she was frustrated with her team’s yoyo-ing form, but backed them to turn it around with crucial clashes against Alamein and Bulleen in the next two weeks.

“It is quite frustrating as a coach and obviously as a player it would be too,” she said.

“We have been working towards putting consistent performances together. With good, positive performances come results.

“There were some uncharacteristic performances, or individual mistakes which are leading to us conceding goals. It’s an area of our game we really need to focus on over the coming weeks.

“Having said that, yes there are individual errors, but we score goals and concede goals as a team.

“Over the next couple of weeks we will focus as a team on ensuring that as a team we are conceding less goals,” she said.

Wins against fourthplaced Alamein and fifthplaced Bulleen would be the perfect way for sixth-placed Galaxy to propel itself up the ladder and push towards the finals positions on the table.

The club also has a TeamApp Cup fixture against Bulleen to play in the next fortnight as well. A date is yet to be confirmed.

“This can be as cliched as it sounds, but it could be the turning point of the season if we can manage to get a run of points against these top teams,” Smith said.
