Plenty of upside for Vixens

- CHRIS CAVANAGH

MELBOURNE Vixens defender Emily Mannix says her side still has “heaps to learn” but has been buoyed by two fighting wins to start the Super Netball season.

The Vixens scored a onegoal win over Collingwood Magpies in the opening round and found a way to overcome NSW Swifts 63-61 last Sunday after trailing by three goals early in the final term.

“I’m super excited with how the season’s started for us with two wins but in saying that they have not been two of the prettiest wins,” Drysdale export Mannix said.

“Some of the netball we’re playing looks good and quite seamless out on court but on the flip side there are a fair few things we need to keep working on as a team and also individually as well.

“But it’s better to be having those things to improve on and learn and still be winning than having those things to learn and be losing.”

The Vixens have a thirdstraight game at home, set to take on Queensland Firebirds at Hisense Arena from 3pm tomorrow.

The Firebirds missed finals last season but are coming off a 55-52 win over reigning premier Sunshine Coast Lightning after suffering a one-goal loss to the Swifts in the opening round.

As goal keeper, Mannix is set to come up against Firebirds import Romelda Aiken, who has scored 45 and 39 goals from her first two games.
