Fight for life after stabbing

-

A MAN is in a critical condition after being stabbed in Geelong West at the weekend, and another victim was also injured.

The men, both reportedly aged in their mid-20s, are yet to speak to police about the incident.

It’s understood they had an altercation with another group of males about 10.30pm Friday near Gertrude St.

Detective Sergeant Duncan Frame said both victims received stab wounds to their body, and were taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen confirmed paramedics were called to nearby Halstead Place on Friday night after it was reported a man had been stabbed.

When they got there, the ambulance officers found there were two men with injuries.

Both were in a serious condition, and were transported to Geelong hospital, arriving just after 11pm.

A hospital spokesman yesterday said one of the men was in a critical condition, while the other was stable.

Because of their injuries, the men were unable to speak to police on Saturday, but Sgt Frame said detectives hoped to speak to them last night.

“Until we can speak to them, we can’t say too much about what has happened, but if anyone witnessed the incident or has information they should phone Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000),” he said.
