Blistering start sets premier up for comfortable victory over Tigers
THOMSON 57 v INVERLEIGH 33 PREMIER Thomson got off to a flying star, outscoring Inverleigh 17 to seven in the first quarter, which set up the rest of the game.
The Tigers made changes at halftime, with Bek Lebish moving into defence and Shannyn Leach going into centre, creating multiple turnovers between them.
Thomson eventually ran away with the game, with Allie Drake and Lauren Conroy the best of the Tigers.
Inverleigh’s best were Brydie Dwyer, Melissa Whyte and Bentia Eygenraam. WERRIBEE opened a commanding lead in the first quarter, shutting down Winchelsea’s midcourt.
In defence Amanda O’Malley was outstanding, while in attack Melissa Prismall worked hard for every ball.
Ellie Tubbs led the shooting for the winners with 29 goals.
Young Winchelsea defenders Steph Hillman and Connie Royal worked tirelessly against Werribee’s tall and experienced goalers. EAST led at every quarter in a physical game. Shannon Pietsch was strong in goals (35), taking every opportunity given to her by Alanna Cottrill.
Tahlia Billows and Claudia Cook in defence were equally impressive with many intercepts and rebounds. ANAKIE came out firing and led from start to finish.
Captain Shayne Pitman and Sarah Gilcrist were energetic through the midcourt. Gilcrist forced a number of turnovers.
Brydi Toyne (GK) and Aimee Burgess (WD) worked hard in defence.
The Lions found their feet in the third quarter, demonstrated by winning the term by one goal. GEORGIA Connors and Georgia Duncan jelled again in the ring for Bannockburn, while Celeste De Munari and Abbie Avery fed the shooters.
Defenders Erin Dillon and Tegan McNamara put in solid efforts in the defensive circle for Bannockburn, with support from Leigh Potter in WD.
Brittany Chapman worked tirelessly in defence for North Geelong and recruit Alex Rau worked well in the second quarter. Taylah Maar also performed well. NAOMI Maaka was dominant in goals as the Giants scored a strong win over the Panthers.
