Racing launches global platform
THE Victoria Racing Club plans to broaden its international footprint — and not only through the Melbourne Cup — after joining forces with Ascot, Goodwood and the Breeders Cup to launch a global online platform.
The four racing giants have combined as foundation partners of World Horse Racing, which launches today.
VRC chief executive Neil said the club “is committed to innovation and showcasing racing at Flemington racecourse to the world”.
“We lead Australia in our push into the global digital space, with partnerships with Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat providing a taste of the Melbourne Cup Carnival to people around the world,” he said.
“This is an opportunity to broaden our reach and engage with racing fans globally by highlighting our spectacular race days including the four days of the world-renowned Melbourne Cup carnival, our events, our equine and human athletes and the people behind it all, to new and existing audiences.”
Australia’s most powerful racing club, the VRC has already built significant audiences through other platforms.
In 2016, the Melbourne Cup was the first live streaming deal for Twitter outside the US, reaching 1.6 million viewers.
“World Horse Racing is another layer to the VRC’s innovative media content strategy, which is focused on leveraging the broad range of content we generate,” Wilson said.
“And optimising the reach of this content through carefully considered distribution across multiple platforms, both locally and globally.” World Horse Racing hopes to attract both hardcore fans and “sports enthusiasts who have yet to explore horse racing”.
