CORDY CLEARANCE CANNED

-

IT was the classic case of wishful thinking.

With a skinful of ales, the boys at North Shore were convinced Ayce Cordy was on his way to Windsor Park.

But it appears Cordy will not be lining up with the Seagulls, despite the best efforts to lure him from VAFA club Uni Blues after a clearance was mysteriously lodged over the weekend.

“I think the boys had a few too many beers on Saturday,” North Shore president Dale Purcell said.

“(Senior coach) Sam Darley and Ayce are quite good friends, they played together at Footscray.

“About five weeks ago Sam touched base with him, and Ayce had signed with Uni Blues, but he wasn’t going to play at all.

“Sam said, ‘We’re a bit light on for height, would you fill in for a couple of games if you’re not going to play at all?’

“But on Saturday, after a few ales, the story changed and someone at the club got a bit over excited and put a clearance in.

“But, no, he’s not playing. We haven’t even spoken to him or anything. It was just a little bit of a misunderstanding which led to a wrong clearance being lodged.”

Purcell was forced to mop of the mistake, when Uni Blues rejected the clearance on Sunday.

“I had to try to get hold of their president to say, ‘I’m very sorry for the miscommunication and the clearance should have never been put in’,” he said.

“So we’ve got no chance of getting him. It was just a preseason chat and the story changed over about eight or nine cans watching the interleague game on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Robertson will return to football this weekend after his clearance dispute with Corio was put to bed.

“I haven’t spoke to Ryan, but all I know is he put in a clearance on Friday and on Saturday it was done,” Purcell said.

“So I assume he’s worked it out with Corio and he’s playing for us on Saturday.”
