GREAT GRAB:

GAZ’S OLD PAD SNAPPED UP

- TESSA HAYWARD

A SPRAWLING Grovedale property once home to Geelong football great Gary Ablett Sr has sold again after a sale fell through last year.

The premier property with enchanting gardens, alluring swimming pool and lavish threebedroom house at 35 Meadowvale Drive sold for $1.03 million in December last year.

However, Hayeswinckle Highton agent Ray Rounds said that sale fell through so they were able to relist the property for sale last week with a price guide of $945,000 to $1.025 million.

“We put it up last Wednesday and a local family saw it on the Saturday and were signing contracts on the Monday,” Mr Rounds said.

The property ended up selling for $1.07 million.

Mr Rounds said the buyers had been looking for about 12 months and loved the opulence of the property and the care that had been given to the home.

“They are local people and are upsizing and upgrading, they loved the pool,” he said.

The 2112sq m property has come a long way since Ablett owned it.

The vendors said they bought the house from him in October 2000 and then set about creating a lush, private garden and, more recently, renovating the expansive interior.

Taking their cues from the existing high ceilings and detailed plasterwork, the vendors set about creating elegant and sophisticated living spaces befitting the house’s grand proportions. The other key priority was to better showcase the impressive indoor pool and spa room — the ultimate year-round entertainment area with its own bar, waterfall and fernery garden. The property also has 64 solar panels, five water tanks, electric front gate, security system, a citrus grove and an array of fruit trees.
