Couple out of the room when car comes calling

- JAIMEE WILKENS

A CAR ploughed through a Grovedale living room yesterday leaving a lucky elderly couple shaken but unharmed.

Neighbour Barry McFarlane said he and his wife were sitting in their front room when they heard the bang soon after 2.15pm.

“It sounded like something had fallen off the back of a truck, we looked out the side window and saw the car,” Mr McFarlane said.

“This car looks like it has somehow come out of the carpark on the corner of Hayes Rd and lost control.

“My wife and I can’t work out for the life of us how it happened.”

He said it was lucky no one had been injured, especially considering how many schools were in the area.

“Nice people next door, they just took it in their stride but I think they’re a bit rattled,” he said.

“They were in the dining room when it happened, they said they usually sit in the living room where the car went through.”

Powercor officials and council-contracted building surveyors were yesterday working to secure the safety of the site.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman confirmed ambulance treated a woman in her 70s at the scene but did not transport her.

The service could not confirm whether the woman was in the vehicle or the Burdoo Drive house.
