Iconoclasm to chase the sun, just not in Hong Kong

- RYAN REYNOLDS

ROSEMONT Stud’s Anthony Mithen says he has turned down some lucrative offers from Hong Kong for rising star Iconoclasm.

The three-year-old son of Toorak Toff has been in stunning form this preparation, winning five of his past six starts, including four in the city.

His dominant performances has sparked serious interest from abroad, but Mithen said he was keen to push on to next month’s $350,000 Group 2 Queensland Guineas rather than sell.

“I would have thought he'd be hard to beat in that,” he said.

“He seems to be that super progressive, light, flashing three-year-old at the moment. He is on track to run there.

“There has been some significant offers for the horse to go to Hong Kong, but we own the mother and sisters.

“At some stage the money might get too tempting, but at the minute we are pressing on to the Queensland Guineas and will fly the flag for the team, our family and Toorak Toff.”

The Darren Weir-trained Iconoclasm has been the poster boy for Toorak Toff since winning his maiden impressively in February. But he is not alone. Toorak Toff has been on fire with 18 winners since the start of April, including the talented Toorak Flyer and Girls Got Spirit.

Mithen will stand Toorak Toff again this season and the Geelong Advertiser understands there will be a substan- tial discount on his fee to breeders on application. Last season he stood for $6000. MEANWHILE, talented stayer Volkstok’n’barrell will run in the Group 1 Kranji Mile in Singapore on Saturday.

The Donna Logan-trained galloper is set for a short stint racing in Asia, starting with Saturday’s meeting.

The six-year-old will be ridden by Craig Grylls.
