Wright flying the flag
RIGHT on time, Australia’s Mikey Wright is emerging as a contender on surfing’s biggest stage, WSL Championship Tour.
This year Wright has come from nowhere and is establishing himself on the world stage in a big way, consistently taking down many of the world’s top surfers.
He did it again in Bali earlier this week by eliminating the USA mainland’s toprated surfer Kolohe Andino.
Mikey is young at 21 and he makes up a family of three on the world tour joining older siblings Owen and Tyler Wright.
Such a family grouping has never been seen on the elite tour before.
Judging by his form, he looks very likely to be a world title contender, and sooner rather than later
He is not scared to tackle the best surfers in the world, he has confidence and he charges in big powerful waves — it is the perfect mix.
It comes at a time when sceptics were starting to search for who was emerging out of Australia and Mikey Wright has appeared as the perfect answer — he also fits the Australian character perfectly!
Who do we support in his next heat in Bali where he will take on world No.1 and our own Julian Wilson?
Four-Day Surf Forecast: Onshore and messy surf today. Conditions should improve a lot tomorrow with light offshore winds and good waves on the reefs around 1.25m through until Sunday.
