One win and Newcomb’s ecstatic

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE

NEWCOMB netball coach Kristen Clark will not let her players get carried away with the club’s first win since 2013 ahead of another winnable game against Drysdale.

The Power can make it back-to-back wins today against the Hawks, who have won just two games this season.

While Clark said her players enjoyed the win last weekend, they would be determined to back it up today.

“I’ve tried to keep their feet on the ground,” Clark said.

“They’re very up and about, they’re so excited and looking forward to Saturday’s game. They definitely celebrated on Saturday night, that’s for sure.

“We’ve just got to look week to week now and see if we can get any more wins on the board. We’ve got Drysdale this week so we’ll try and get another four points on the board, but we won’t get ahead of ourselves.”

The Power will be without goal shooter Kathryn Asmussen, who broke her hand in the dying minutes of last week’s win over Portarlington, but Clark said the club’s depth meant another soldier would fill the void.

“I’m really happy with the depth we’ve got,” Clark said.

“Every grade has won a match — E-grade is sitting in finals, D-grade is sitting just out of finals and every other grade has got a win on the board.

“We’ve been competitive every game I think so far; our margins have reduced by 50 per cent on last year. I think that pressure of getting the first win off our backs means every game is now a winnable game.”
